Meet the Band
As you'll see from the brief details provided beside each of the pictures below, Tayport Band brings together people from all backgrounds and areas of work. Like many other brass bands, we have several family connections within the band, as well as student representation from our local universities and colleges.

The band also has a wide mix of age ranges, with a significant number of key players still youth members. At the other end of the scale there are three or four members over the age of sixty still happily playing and contesting! The remaining age profile of the band is about 22% over twenty one but under forty years and around 45% over forty but less than sixty years! Such a diverse mix ensures band social events are always well attended and great fun!

If you're a brass player or percussionist coming to work or study in the area and looking for a friendly band, a visit to Tayport will prove worthwhile. - you'll find directions on our Where We Are page.

And if you're thinking about a return to banding after starting a family, and worried about being able to make the commitment, you'll be pleased to hear that around half of our band members have young families and fit their banding around their family and work commitments so why not come along for a blow and meet us?

Resident MD - Frank Culross

"Man in the Middle" Frank used to be our solo trombone player until early 2006. He is also well known in Scottish banding as a conductor, having previously conducted several bands such as Penicuik Silver, Buckhaven & Methil Miners and Dundee Instrumental to name but a few.

Frank originally studied music at Cambridgeshire College of Arts & Technology as well as Colchester Institute School of Music before going on to work in a variety of dance and show bands.
